  2. Listening to my radio on the way to work earlier this week I heard a man phone in suggesting that there was no reason for indigenous people not be happy living in 3rd world housing (humpies?) as after all, wasn't that what they had before white people came along?

I'm white and it made me see red (still does just reading this), so god knows what it did to poor Mr Bayles.

I thought I'd post this note to offer my support and hopefully provide some comfort by letting you know that this person publicly showed himself up on radio to be an ignorant, self satisfied bigot. Tiga Bayles's rightous indignation shone through and was spot on.

  3. I was listening to the interview this morning with Mark re the custodial sentencing of indigenous citizens. He can't be serious . . . . . . . you only go to jail when you've broken the law. So don't break the law.

He spoke of it being tough to be in jail and how it doesn't really work. So for a woman raped and bashed you don't think that's tough ? She lives with the fear and humiliation for life. Anyone that rapes and bashes another person should never be released from jail. Forget rehabilitation, you've done your dash with your freedom. Even traditional law wouldn't see them walking freely amongst the community again. Jail does work, it keeps society safer for the people that don't commit the crimes.

If we seriously want fewer indigenous citizens in jail then we need parents to learn how to parent and teach our kids so the crimes aren't committed in the first place. Parenting is the thing that really lets down our indigenous youth.

The old adage "do the crime do the time" needs to be respected, not to try and find ways to wiggle out of.

  4. As can be seen with re-offender statistics in this country, the system not only fails Indigenous people it fails everyone.

It's inhumane to lock people in cages, it can reduce them to nothing by taking away all rights and being treated like a number.

In the old way we had a system that would still work today with zero re-offenders because of the harsh yet effective forms of justice.

So why aren't we looking at answers here?

lastly, I'l end with a lyric from the band's Spearhead's, Michael Franti - 'Wall street crime will never send you to the slammers.'

Question everything or be blind to freedom.

  5. Thanks for the show Tiga and more power to the your good self and the unions supporting the Stolen Wages issue! Saying Sorry to our Australian Indigenous people was just the beginning and needs to be followed up with meaningful ACTION! Money isn't everything but it takes the sting out of poverty!
    Kind regards,

Once pon a time, whitey lived in a humpy too, so people who live in humpies should not sling mud.
The frame of a house was never made from wood or steel, and not that very long ago. So, whoever you may be black or white, get over yourselves.
And, on the subject of the "Sorry" speech, Mr Rudd had no NOUNS in his speech, therefore he said NOTHING! He knows it, the writer knows it, the Opposition knows it, and so too do the judges!

  8. Hi,

Are you going to pod-cast the interview with Clinton Schultz from Friday 12 November 2010? I'd really like to hear that interview as I missed it live and I've been told it was good.

    Cheers,

    Loz

  10. More chasing info than posting a comment. I went to the seminar (in Bardon) presented by Chris Graham on the NT Intervention, and was amazed at his presentation. Has he set up his web site yet? Does he have a blog? Is he still writing in the popular media? His last post for Crikey.com (for example) appears to have been this time last year. Thanks
